PERFORMANCE STREAM

CONCERT MANUAL

CDT Performance Stream Concert – Friday 14th November at The Pavilion, Sutherland
This year’s concert will look a little different! Due to major renovations, we’ve had to move from our usual venue and date — but we’re embracing the change and making the best of it.

The rehearsal will take place during the day on Friday 14th November. We understand this is a school day, which is why we're providing this information well in advance to allow families plenty of time to plan ahead.

Our 2025 Performance Stream Concert is a celebration of our students’ passion, growth, and talent.
Throughout Term 3, students will learn routines in the following styles:

  • Jazz

  • Ballet

  • Tap

  • Lyrical or Contemporary

  • Hip Hop

  • Musical Theatre

These routines are learned alongside their regular training, culminating in a special performance to showcase their progress and dedication.
The concert is a highlight of the year — a chance for families and friends to watch our dancers light up the stage and feel the joy of performing.

PARENTS
All parents and guardians are audience members only on concert day — backstage access is not permitted. We hire a team of experienced backstage and change room helpers so that you don’t need to run back and forth during the show. These helpers all hold valid Working With Children Checks and are there to support your superstar behind the scenes.

As our performance stream continues to grow, so does the scale of the concert and the number of helpers required. We greatly appreciate your support in respecting this structure — it allows our performers to stay calm, safe, and focused.

This is your day to sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

HOW THE REHEARSAL WORKS
Attendance is mandatory.
The full cast will rehearse on the morning of the concert: Friday 14th November at The Pavilion, Sutherland.

Dancers will be dropped off at the stage door at approximately 11:15am with all belongings: dance clothes, required shoes, and any props. During the rehearsal, students will:

  • Walk through each routine on stage

  • Learn where to wait and where to change costumes

  • Get familiar with backstage expectations and performance flow

They will then have a break, eat, and begin preparing for their first routine.

HOW THE SHOW WORKS
All performers must be completely ready in costume by 5:30pm when doors open and the audience begins to take their seats.

Our backstage team (all WWCC-verified) will assist students with:

  • Costume changes

  • Walking to and from the stage

  • Staying calm and prepared during the show

To keep things safe, organised and enjoyable, no one will be allowed backstage without an official pass. This system ensures backstage stays clear, quiet, and focused, and allows all families to fully enjoy the performance from the audience.

We’ve included a backstage helper fee within the concert fee to help cover this important support. We’re proud of how smoothly our shows run and have received fantastic feedback in past years — it’s always a joyful and memorable experience for everyone involved.

PLEASE NOTE: All times are TBC

How the Costumes and Make Up Works:

Costumes are hired from CDT. The costumes are tried on during a costume run in Term 4 (date in BAND calendar), then on the day will be taken to the venue by CDT.

Make up is used on stage as the stage lights can drown out the features of the performer and the right make up highlights facial features. After seeking advice from make up artists, CDT will be using a browns colour scheme (smokey for seniors).

FAQ'S

What Will Students Need In Preparation?

Please ensure students have correct footwear and stockings for the right classes. We do not advise waiting until the week before to get all the right materials, as the student will not have prepared in them. If you are not sure, please ask their teachers. For students to prepare correctly for concert they should practice their routine - you can order the music links for $15, keep their stretching and strengthening constant and don't miss any warm ups. Please try to keep absences to a minimum, even when the routine is complete as it is a team effort so they can fully prepare for performing onstage with their group.

Who is in the End Of Year Show?

There are two! All toddlers, preschoolers, and Rec Stream students are in their own show - All Performance Stream Students are doing jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical or contemporary, musical theatre and hip hop in their show. If you/your child is not able to participate in our end of year show it is essential you let us know in writing by 26th July as they are group numbers so spacing, patterns and lines depend on the dancers. Please discuss the importance of commitment to the concert and classes with students so we can run a fantastic show for you!

Why is it Important to Attend Classes?

We understand that some absences are unavoidable due to illness or prior commitments but we appreciate trying to keep absences to a minimum during concert prep time. As these routines are group dances, it is important that all members of the class are there to learn choreography. Each week should be a progression of the routine, to make it the best dance possible to showcase at the show, but if there are constant absences we will have to back track choreography already been taught so we will not be able to move forward - we would hate for any student to go up on stage and be unsure what they have to do! This also makes the dancers aware of the importance of being part of a team, what it means to work together.

Recording the Performance: We enforce a strict no flash photography or video recording of the end of year show. This is to keep under the child privacy acts so we would appreciate your full cooperation. You will receive a link of the performance as part of your package.

What Happens After the Concert?

Dancing is still on until the 13th December

Our 2026 timetable will begin during these weeks - more information will be released at a later date.

Who Does Hair and Makeup?
You do! This is the responsibility is on the dancer/ dancers family. We set guidelines and help with tutorials and visual cues.

We will be holding a concert makeup tutorial class in Term Four.
