DO PARENTS WATCH THE SHOW?
Absolutely — and we want you to enjoy every moment from the audience!
All parents and guardians are strictly audience members during the show and are not permitted in the change rooms or backstage areas. To ensure everything runs smoothly, we hire dedicated backstage and change room helpers who hold valid Working With Children Checks (WWCC). Their role is to support your dancer with costume changes, getting ready, and staying calm behind the scenes.
As our concerts grow, so does the number of students involved — which means more helpers and more behind-the-scenes coordination. We’ve got it all covered so that you don’t have to worry.
This is your time to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching your superstar shine on stage!
WHAT ARE THE COSTS?
Your costume fee, concert fee, concert tshirt and concert footage is already part of your invoice, so the only costs for this time of the years are:
- Your ticket to the show! Tickets can be purchased through the trybooking website
- link will be sent out 1st November.
Tickets prices announced at a later date.
HOW LONG DOES IT GO FOR?
Each show will go for approx. 70 minutes
After the show has finished, students will be dismissed group by group to their families/ carers.

How the Costumes and Make Up Works:
Costumes are hired from CDT.
The costumes are tried on in class, the first costume that they wear on stage will be handed out for them to wear to the venue, then the other costumes will be taken to the venue by CDT.
Makeup is not compulsory for our minis (toddlers and presschoolers)
They absolutely can wear it if they would like to!
Makeup is done before they arrive to the venue.
Why Makeup?
Make up is used on stage as the stage lights can drown out the features of the performer and the right make up highlights facial features. After seeking advice from make up artists, CDT will be using a browns colour scheme.
The CDT makeup tutorial can be found on our youtube https://youtu.be/sdHSm6ETUFM

HOW THE SHOWS WORK
SHOW A: Toddlers & High school Rec Stream students arrive at 9:30am, hair and makeup done, dressed in their first costume (if they have multiple routines)
Doors to the auditorium will open at this time also.
Show starts at 10am
The show will run for approximately 70 minutes, then afterwards students will be dismissed back to families (dressed in their CDT concert shirt (that they receive at the concert) and black shorts (you provide the black shorts).
SHOW B: Preschoolers and Primary Rec Stream students arrive at 1:30pm, hair and makeup done, dressed in their first costume (if they have multiple routines)
Doors to the auditorium will open at this time also.
Show starts at 2pm
The show will run for approximately 70 minutes, then afterwards students will be dismissed back to families (dressed in their CDT concert shirt and black shorts - we provide the shirt, you provide the black shorts).
We are hiring backstage helpers (working with children & safety checks will be run on all helpers) to assist the performers in costume change, walking to and from the stage and to ensure the show runs smoothly. This allows all parents and friends to watch the show and to ensure backstage does not get overcrowded, as well as the safety of the children. No one will be allowed backstage without a pass. We receive fantastic feedback regarding how our end of year show runs, we found it creates a calm and exciting atmosphere everybody gets to enjoy – we have included a fee for backstage helpers in your concert fee. Students receive a participation medal to take home.
Costumes are not taken home, they will remain with CDT staff.
There will be a little celebration for our Preschoolers graduating out of the Mini's program and into the next stage of CDT.
HOW THE ROUTINES WORK
Most Toddler and Preschooler classes will learn their own jazz routine, so it’s important that your dancer attends their regular weekly class. If they attend a makeup lesson on a different day, just know that they’ll be learning a different class’s routine.
For Preschoolers, some classes will be combined for their ballet and tap routines. We’ll guide the students through this process, and we’re so excited to see it come together!

FAQ'S
What Will Students Need in Preparation?
To help your dancer feel confident and ready for concert season, here’s what to keep in mind:
-
Please make sure your child has the correct footwear and stockings for each style they are performing in.
-
Don’t wait until the last week — students should be practicing in the correct shoes and attire during class.
-
If you're unsure about what’s needed, please speak to your child’s teacher early in the term.
To prepare properly, we recommend:
-
Ordering a music link of the routine for at-home practice ($15 – available through CDT).
-
Keeping up regular stretching and strengthening at home.
-
Rec Stream students should aim to arrive 15 minutes early for class to warm up and make the most of their time in the studio.
-
Avoiding absences where possible, even once routines are complete — performing is a team effort and students need time to rehearse with their group.
Who Is Involved in the End-of-Year Shows?
All Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Rec Stream students enrolled in dance style classes will be learning routines for the concert.
Concert participation is optional, but if your dancer will not be participating, you must let us know in writing by Friday 26th July.
This is crucial as choreography, spacing, and formations are based on the students who are involved.
Please speak to your child about the importance of commitment — it helps us create a fantastic show experience for everyone!
Why Is Class Attendance So Important?
We know some absences are unavoidable, but during concert prep, we kindly ask families to keep absences to a minimum.
Each routine is a group effort — if students miss class, it affects spacing, timing, and progress for the entire group.
Weekly rehearsals build on previous work, so frequent absences can slow things down or lead to confusion. We want every dancer to step on stage feeling prepared, confident, and proud!
Being present also teaches students the value of teamwork and responsibility — essential life lessons through dance.
Recording the Performance
To protect our students’ privacy, we enforce a strict no photography or video recording policy during the show. This is part of our child safety commitment.
Unfortunately, if someone is seen recording or taking photos, they will be escorted out of the auditorium.
But don’t worry — a professional recording link will be provided as part of your concert package so you can enjoy the memories afterward.
What Happens After the Concert?
Dance classes will continue for one more week after the show.
We will begin our 2026 timetable during this final week — full details will be shared closer to the time.
Who Does Hair and Makeup?
Hair and makeup are the responsibility of each family.
We’ll provide clear guidelines, video tutorials, and visual examples to help.
There will also be a concert makeup tutorial session held in Term 4 for those who’d like extra help.
What If My Dancer Is Not Participating in the Concert?
All students will still learn the routines during class time.
Even if they’re not performing on stage, they’ll be included in the process just like everyone else — building skills, confidence, and teamwork in the lead-up to the show.
