WHY DO DANCERS WEAR MAKEUP FOR STAGE?
Dancers wear makeup on stage so their facial features don’t get washed out under the bright lights. It helps the audience clearly see their expressions from a distance, which is an important part of telling the story and performing with confidence. Stage makeup isn’t about changing how they look, but about making sure every dancer can shine and be seen equally under the lights.

DETAILS FOR REHEARSAL - FRIDAY 14TH NOVEMBER
We know it’s not ideal that the concert falls on a school day. While our preference is always a weekend, as new customers at the Pavilion this year, we get what we get. This will still be such a special day for our Performance Stream dancers, and we’re so grateful for your support in making it a memorable one.
-
At 11:30am, 6u students are to be dropped off and arrive with all their belongings at The Pavilion at the stage door.
-
Students must have CDT concert shirt and shorts on. Parents/caregivers are not to stay.
This is their practice and preparation time for the show you will be watching.
They will also be inducted into the theatre.
-
Students take their belongings to the auditorium and get ready for the rehearsal.
-
We will warm up and stretch together.
-
During this tech rehearsal students will mark out their routines for sound and lighting and spacing, then a run through with the music. This allows them to see what the other age groups will be performing and bond over getting excited for the upcoming concert.
-
We will have a full run through of the finale.
-
We will finish by having a discussion on etiquette of performers during the show, an explanation of the rules and a run down of what will happen during the performance.
-
We will then show them the backstage area and they can put their belongings in their change room
-
6s will finish at 12:45pm. They will be picked up so they can eat, have a break and get ready for their show!
-
Be sure to bring water to keep hydrated throughout the tech rehearsal.
PERFORMANCE STREAM CONCERT DETAILS
-
Students to be be dropped off at the stage door at 5:15pm withe hair and makeup completely done. (absolutely no later, you are not an exception to this rule, if you are usually a few minutes late, aim to be there at 5pm) They must be signed in and dropped off at the stage door. Warm up and stretch will commence to ensure they perform safely. Please make sure they have had a decent meal before this time. Absolutely no greasy food is to be brought into the change room.
-
Parents are NOT allowed backstage or into change room. We have hired helpers with working with children checks done to assist students with preparation and supervision. This has been decided for a number of reasons: to ensure keep child protection safety as well as a smooth running show, this also allows parents to enjoy the complete experience rather than missing out on other performances and possibly their child’s - there will not be a large amount of acts between age groups. Doors to the auditorium will only open before the show, the intermission and after the show. Please do not ask to be an exception to the rule.
-
At 5:30pm, auditorium doors open for all guests to begin being seated and all CDT students should already be in their allocated areas. They need to be completely ready for their first dance at this time and begin to stretch again. Please help us in ensuring that the performance starts on time on ensuring you and your guests are inside the theatre efficiently.
-
At 6pm the show will begin, with three parts of the concert and two ten minute intermissions in between. CDT awards will be given at the end of the show. Students will not be allowed out of the change room until after the concert when parents have signed them out for dismissal from the backstage manager when the show has finished. While they are waiting in the change room the students are able to watch the current performance on a tv screen in their room.
-
ALL STUDENTS are to stay until the end of the show. Under no circumstances are students to be taken from the backstage area until the backstage manager allows it, after the finale where they will be dismissed from the stage door.

HOW DOES THE PICKUP PROCESS WORK?
After the Show, we will be releasing the students age group at a time. So the 6U parents will be the first group called. Parents of the groups being picked up will be asked to move into the area as the students exit. We appreciate your assistance by waiting your turn and being patient with this process. This way we can get all the students back to their families efficiently.
HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR DANCER PREPARE?
It is great to talk about the show that they will be doing with CDT up on the stage and how it is a positive experience, which is what we will be doing in class leading up to the concert. It is a fantastic idea that you encourage your dancer to practice their routines so that they are confident for when they do it up on the stage! If you would like the music for your dancer to practice, get the music link sent to you for $15, as all our music is cut and edited. You can ensure all correct footwear, stockings, accessories etc and purchased well before the actual concert, you can check with the teachers which is correct. Keeping absences to a minimum is very important.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE CONCERT?
Our 2026 timetable will begin in December. The week after the concert will be a condensed timetable with our photos shoots and minis and rec concerts coming up (please see weekly for details) dancers will have 2 weeks to begin preparation for the next years work. We are really excited about this! The last day of classes in Saturday 13th December - this is also our party day!
WILL THIS BE A FUN EXPERIENCE?
Most definitely. It is such a great experience in a positive and friendly environment – something dancers can treasure forever. They get to be part something special, where they are the stars of the show, dress up in special outfits and perform, grow bonds with other members of CDT and create friendships that last a lifetime. It is definitely worth it. We are so excited and hope you are too!
WHAT ABOUT VIDEO RECORDING?
There is STRICTLY no personal recording. If you are caught recording performances or taking photos you will be escorted from the auditorium and your footage erased. Please understand that this is in the best interest of the children as children’s safety is so important to us at CDT and we take the child protection act very seriously. You will receive your concert footage as part of your concert fee.
